Our Community Impact
The Junior League of Wilmington plays a major role in our community. We strive for maximum impact through the effective action of highly trained volunteers.
Whale of a Sale
Founded in 1980, the Junior League of Wilmington’s Whale of a Sale is known as "Delaware's Largest Garage Sale."
Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware and is located at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine Creek.
Working in the Community
The Junior League of Wilmington is proud to be working with several local nonprofit organizations on the issue of children’s health and wellness.
The Junior League of Wilmington is taking a three-pronged approach to its community impact efforts in children's health and well-being. Throughout 2014-15, League members are engaging in advocacy, instructional outreach and hands-on charitable activities. We are working to pass Erin's Law in Delaware and delivering life skills and wellness workshops to youths served by Bayard House, the Delaware Adolescent Program Inc. (DAPI) and the Delaware Center for Justice (DCJ). We also are revamping DAPI's community room and kitchen, conducting item drives for all three partner organizations (click here for a printable schedule) and organizing placement and delivery of all merchandise that remains after November's Whale of a Sale to Bayard House, DAPI, the DCJ and other local nonprofits.
We are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
